Let’s talk plus size assumptions

Hello my Phat friends! Welome to my blog where I post about body positivity. If you are new here than thank you for checking out my little piece of the internet. :-). Today I would like to address something I’m sure all plus size, curvy (or yes, fat) people have had to deal with. I’m going to call it the “plus size assumptions”

For example: All plus size people are lazy. For some its true, but that being said I know plenty of skinny lazy people. This may shock you (prepare to be horrified) but some fat people actually exercise. This may hurt to hear but it is possible to exercise and have body fat.

Example 2- All plus size, curvy and fat people eat bad foods. Again for some this is true, but that being said I know a very thin woman who lives off pop tarts and Pepsi. I eat mainly fruits and salads and I’m fat. I work with some vegans who eat healthy, go to the gym everyday and yes, still have body fat.

Example 3 – If you promote fat positivity (such as I do), you are promoting obesity. I can say for myself personally this is completely untrue. I want people to live happy, healthy lives. But at the same time I also want people to know that you don’t have to be a size 2 or 8 or even 12 to do so.

Just because you have fat it doesn’t mean you are lazy or eat bad (let’s face it, we all have our bad habits). One person’s ideal or healthy weight may not be the same as yours and that’s okay.

For more information on my experiences with fat shaming check out this post *see there* —– Fat Shaming post

Just throwing this out there because this is how I gained most of my weight, but some medications (including fertility), hormone imbalances, crohns disease, amongst others can all cause weight gain. Just because you are/have fat, it does not make you a lazy person. Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and each one is beautiful.

What are some assumptions you have heard or been on the receiving end of because of your body fat? Let me know down in the comments below.

Till next time,

Tanya xoxo

  1. Yes! All these presumptions I’ve come across at one time or another. It frustrates me that these negatives exist – and the people who think they can just come up and say this kind of BS to you when they wouldn’t dream of saying anything similar to someone who isn’t plus-sized.

  2. Size doesn’t mean a thing, some skinnier girls eat really unhealthy and don’t exercise! There are so many more factors that come into. Great awareness post, thank you!

    1. I completely agree. I just hate when some people see someone plus size and automatically think they are lazy, or eat really bad, or dont excercise. Everyones body is different. Even when I was a tiny teen at 122 pounds (thought I was too fat) I was wearing size 13 pants because I have big hips and a ass. Seriously back then I was all boobs and butt. Lol

      1. I very much agree with size doesn’t matter. Although, I have a particular size I strive for because it is when I feel my best. It is by no means a skinny size but when I get over it, as I am now, I start feeling icky. I like to exercise but it is the first thing to go when life gets busy. I love the message her for sure and it gives me some things to think about!

        1. I completely understand that. I’m a 18 right now and it’s definitely not my ideal size. It’s your body and it’s whatever YOU are comfortable with. <3

  3. This has me thinking…I am on the chubby side myself and people are always shocked at how little food intake I do because the assumption is that I probably eat a lot which is far from true. Love it!

    1. Thanks! Ya, I’m the same way. I had a co worker say to she didn’t know how I was so big because I dont even eat enough to keep a bird alive :/.
