Hello my Phat friends. It’s been a while. I thought it would be good to give a little life update just to share what’s been going on.
I live in Atlantic Canada where in “winter” we are the land of ice. Well me being my typical self was walking to work when I slipped in my works parking lot and broke my ankle.
Now doing this, (breaking ones ankle) I do not suggest doing. Its extremely uncomfortable and inconvenient.
I spent December 18th, 2019 in the emergency room waiting for my ankle surgery. I had a plate and some screws put in my ankle so now I’m hoping I have a bionic ankle ;-). (Seriously, how cool would that be?).
Normally the surgery I had would be a day surgery. So you go in, get it done and leave the same day. After my surgery was finished at 12:30am Dec 19th my oxygen levels would not stay at a needed level (they prefer 92 and higher). Every time I would doze off my oxygen levels would drop into the 70s and sometimes high 60s.
So naturally I was put on oxygen and admitted to the hospital for the rest of the night till I could safely maintain my levels. I saw a physiotherapist and they showed me how to use my crutches and had me walk up stairs with them (which I failed miserably at to be honest).
So now I am back home and on bedrest. I get a walking boot put on Dec 30th, 2019 and I go back to see the orthopedic surgeon on Jan 20, 2020.
But never fear, life may have thrown me a curve ball but I’m still in good spirits and smiling. I see no point in being miserable, it’s not like that would change anything.
To read about a couple things I’m grateful for, check out this post — gratefulness post.
So, now what will life throw at me?
Right now I am off work. I know I am at least off until January 20th, 2020. I’ve been told I will have a cast (walking boot come Dec 30) on at least 6-8 weeks. After that I will need extensive physiotherapy.
My work benefits paid for my walking boot. So I’m extremely thankful for that. So now Christmas will be exceptionally quiet and we shall eat whatever my husband makes. Haha.
My husband has been pretty great with helping me, as I have needed help with EVERYTHING, it really puts life into perspective. It has shown me how much I take for granted.
Such as things like walking to the bathroom by myself, or doing personal care. Now I rely on my husband to do pretty much everything. I cant cook or clean or even do pet care.
I’m hoping this will all change once I get my walking boot on. ( sponge bathing your self on the toilet is extremely humbling).
My hope is …
I look forward to the new year when I can once again have a shower, do things by myself and go back to work. I really miss the people at my work place and it’s only been 3 days so far.
My hope for my time off is to get plenty of posts done, read some good books, watch some funny shows and hopefully recuperate.
Let me know how are you doing down in the comments. Do you have any plans for the holidays? What’s new in your life? Let’s chat!
Till next time friends
I am in my walking boot and I go see my surgeon again on the 20th. I’m still not weight bearing but hoping that will change soon.
I started physio and was approved for workers comp (so basically I’m covered till I can return to work).
Till next time
